Stagecoach Places Its Largest Order of Electric Buses

With its largest electric bus order to date, Stagecoach has announced plans to introduce 170 electric vehicles in Stockport, Greater Manchester.

The new fleet will consist of 150 double decker and 20 single decker vehicles, which will be produced by Volvo and MCV for delivery from summer 2024.

Stagecoach’s new electric buses will be fully accessible, featuring wheelchair bays, hearing induction loops, audio and visual announcement systems and anti-slip flooring.

Sam Greer, Engineering Director for Stagecoach, said:

“We're excited to be announcing our largest electric vehicle order to date, which will be a major step forward in improving air quality across the region. This builds further on the investment being made by Stagecoach across the country to support the transition to a zero-emission bus fleet.”

This order is funded by a 37.2 million GBP investment from Stagecoach, which is matched by 37.5 million GBP from Greater Manchester’s successful Zero Emission Bus Regional Areas (ZEBRA) bid.

In addition, 12.5 million GBP has been provided from Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM)/ the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA).
