The International Association of Public Transport (UITP) has cancelled its 2026 global summit, which had been scheduled to take place in Dubai from 21 to 23 April.

The decision followed an assessment of the developing situation in the Gulf region and its potential effect on international travel. UITP stated that the safety and well-being of delegates, partners and staff were key considerations in the decision.

Several national authorities have recently advised against non-essential travel to the region. UITP said its Executive Board reviewed the situation before deciding that the event could not proceed as planned.

The summit had been organised in partnership with Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), which was preparing to host the gathering of transport professionals, policymakers and industry representatives. UITP acknowledged the work undertaken by RTA Dubai and expressed appreciation for the preparations made for the event.

In a statement, the organisation said it values its relationship with the host authority and recognised the effort involved in planning the summit. Preparations had been underway for several months.

The UITP Summit is a regular international meeting for the public transport sector, bringing together organisations and companies involved in urban mobility. UITP will continue to engage with members and stakeholders worldwide and is considering alternative ways to share planned content and maintain professional exchanges.

The next edition of the UITP Summit is scheduled to take place in Hamburg in 2027.
