East Yorkshire Buses has announced plans to build a new bus depot on Taylor Way in Scarborough.

This facility will combine and relocate the operator’s current Barry’s Lane and Westwood depots to the new location.

Scarborough Bus Depot
East Yorkshire Buses operates a fleet of over 270 vehicles, including double decks, single decks, minibuses, coaches and open top buses

Subject to planning approval, work on the facility is scheduled to start this summer. Construction is expected to take around twelve months for completion in 2024.

Scarborough’s new depot will be future-proofed to meet the longterm maintenance and service demands of East Yorkshire Buses’ fleet. This will include the installation of charging infrastructure to support its transition to electric buses.

Ben Gilligan, East Yorkshire Buses Managing Director, said:

This is a very exciting time for East Yorkshire, allowing us to move away from the two sites that we currently occupy in Scarborough, and merge our efforts together as well as adapting to the needs of modern bus operations. We’re looking forward to making the move to show our commitment to providing the best possible service to Scarborough and the surrounding area.

This announcement follow two years of behind-the-scenes work to plan and design the new depot. The site is now being developed in partnership with its landlord, GoodREIT.
