First Bus has announced a new three-year partnership with artificial intelligence (AI) technology company, Propsective.io, to improve services for customers across the UK.
The software, which is capable of automatically generating optimal timetables, schedules and real-time fleet instructions, has previously been successfully trialled in both West Yorkshire and the West of England, and is now planned to be utilised in improving First Bus’ service timetable reliability and shift patterns.
“We’re excited to roll out Prospective’s network planning and scheduling software across our UK bus operations and know that it will benefit both customers and colleagues alike.
“We are always working hard to bring our customers the best possible experience, ensuring that our buses are as efficient and punctual as possible.

Prospective’s software can also be used to identify bus priority interventions that will have significant impacts on travel time, as well as use AI to predict traffic conditions and peak running times.
Previous trials have seen punctuality of services improve by over 20% in addition to a reduction in both fleet operating costs and harmful emissions. As part of the new deal, First Bus will be investing roughly 4.5 million GBP into the company.
