Go-Ahead North East has added nine Voltra electric buses to its fleet in the North East of England.

The nine Voltra electric buses will expand Go-Ahead North East’s electric bus fleet to help improve transport services and air quality in the region.

They will enter service on Go Ahead’s Q3 route from Great Park to Wallsend via Newcastle City. The buses will then be charged overnight at the Riverside depot in Gateshead.

Electric Buses North East
Go North East have launched nine new Voltra electric buses in Newcastle and Gateshead

Passengers will benefit from a range of onboard features including air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi, wireless and USB charging phone holders and contactless payment options.

Go North East, Managing Director, Nigel Featham said:

Our Voltra buses run on electricity sourced with green credentials, but Voltra is far more than just an electric bus fleet. We’ve looked at every detail, working with Pelican Yutong and other suppliers, to maximise the use of technology and innovation. We’re providing high standards in bus travel including customer comfort, information, and ticketing.

We hope that by adding to our zero-emission bus fleet, we can help flip the switch on people’s behaviour and see more people across our region leave the car behind to help reduce congestion on our roads and improve air quality for us all.

The new vehicles were delivered by Yutong subsidiary, Pelican Bus & Coach. The purchase was supported with a 2 million GBP investment from the UK government’s Ultra-Low Emission Bus Fund.

Go-Ahead North East is already Go-Ahead’s largest electric bus operator. The company launched its first electric bus in November 2020 and now operates a total of 18 electric buses with this latest delivery.
