Abellio has launched an additional 41 buses on new Transport for London (TfL) routes, increasing its fleet size by 5 percent.
Abellio will operate a fleet of 30 Wrightbus Electroliner zero-emission vehicles on route 111, and 11 Switch Mobility MetroCity electric single decker buses on route 322. These will be the first Electroliner and Switch Mobility vehicles to enter service in London.
The buses serving route 322 entered service from Abellio’s Battersea depot to serve passengers between Clapham Common and Crystal Palace. Meanwhile, vehicles on route 111 were launched from Abellio’s Twickenham garage and will operate between Kingston and Heathrow Airport via Hounslow. The new TfL contracts will be in effect for 7 years.
Jon Eardley, Managing Director, Abellio London Bus, said:The commencement of these routes is an exciting moment for everyone at Abellio London, and reflects our ambition and growing reputation as an operator of choice. Once again we are showing our expertise in effective mobilisation of quality bus services, ensuring a smooth transition and a safe experience for customers. We’ve been steadily increasing the size of our zero-emission fleet, and the launch of further state-of-the-art electric buses on routes 111 and 322 will see us cement our reputation for operating one of the cleanest bus fleets in the country.
The introduction of new bus routes in London furthers Tfl’s mission to offer more convenient services that connect key amenities across the city. Furthermore, the choice of electric buses helps advance the Mayor of London’s goal of operating a zero-emissions bus network in the UK capital by 2030.
