Equipmake has unveiled its latest electric bus technology, showcasing a zero-emission version of the New Routemaster double-decker bus at Euro Bus Expo.
The vehicle was presented at Equipmake’s stand at Euro Bus Expo, which is being held at the NEC, Birmingham from 1–3 November.
The New Routemaster London bus has been repowered by Equipmake to replace its hybrid drivetrain with a zero-exhaust-emission drivetrain (ZED), comprised of 95% British-built components.
This electric model will undergo pre-service trials operated by Metroline in London over the next six months. During this time, it will be charged at Metroline’s Holloway depot, with infrastructure provided by Zenobē.
Ian Foley, CEO of Equipmake, said:Repowering is a vital, cost-effective transitionary technology that can bridge the gap between diesel and a new electric bus fleet. We are delighted to showcase our latest repower system in the shape of a zero-emission version of the iconic New Routemaster double-decker bus here today at Euro Bus Expo.
London is leading the way in the adoption of green technologies for large commercial vehicles and as TfL continues to evaluate a range of clean technologies, we are confident our repower systems can play a rapid role in accelerating any zero-emission vehicle strategy.
The repowered New Routemaster is equipped with a 400kWh battery that provides an expected in-service range of 150 miles.
The ZED also features Equipmake’s efficient thermal management system which maintains the battery pack, motor, and inverter at an optimum operating temperature to maximise the vehicle’s range.
