Orbit Coaches Returns to Totalkare for Testing Equipment

Passenger transport provider, Orbit Coaches has upgraded its workshop with Totalkare equipment.

Having purchased 3 sets of T8AC cabled mobile column lifts from the workshop equipment experts since 2021, the Leicestershire-based business has now installed an in-ground brake tester and smoke meter to improve the testing facilities of its in-house workshop.

Coach testing equipment

Established in 1995, the family-run business manages a fleet of varied vehicles from 16-seater minibuses to 87-seater double-decker coaches. As part of the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership, Orbit Coaches has committed to reducing the environmental impact of its activities. As part of this the fleet must be well-maintained to reduce emissions and improve fuel efficiency.

By investing in a DS2 XP-0 smoke meter for in-house testing, Orbit Coaches have a diagnostic tool at its disposable to ensure proper maintenance of its diesel engines. The cable-free device is accredited to the latest Euro 6 standards and meets DVSA requirements for the bus and coach industry. It’s accurate readout display provides invaluable data on smoke density and the efficiency of combustion within an engine.

The installation of a TK-7000 in-ground brake tester will also further these environmental goals, using DVSA-approved diagnostics software to present data on brake performance. A variety of models are available with maximum axle loads of between 7,000 and 20,000kg available, the model installed for Orbit Coaches has a 13,000kg capacity to cover its entire fleet. With bi-directional rollers, mobile tablet interface and a cover plate to minimise tyre damage, the brake tester is both safe and efficient – with tests able to be conducted directly from the driver’s seat. The brake tester was installed as a stand-alone to fit seamlessly into the workshop and maximise the use of space.

The Totalkare equipment are also covered by service contractsLOLER inspections and brake tester calibrations.

Talking of the recent additions Lee Chapman, Managing Director of Orbit Coaches said:

“By bolstering the workshop’s in-house testing facilities, Orbit Coaches can continue to guarantee that each vehicle in the fleet is well maintained, safe and goes above and beyond DVSA, Euro 6 and LowCVP standards.”

Jack Longstaff, Area Sales Manager for Totalkare added:

“The Totalkare portfolio covers the entire workshop, and it is great to see a returning customer such as Orbit Coaches trusting Totalkare with both lifting and testing products to cover its large fleet.”
