Solaris has been awarded a tender for the supply of up to 70 Urbino 12 electric buses for Dopravní podnik Ostrava a.s. (DPO).

The twelve-metre electric buses will enter service in Ostrava, and the order represents one of the largest bus tenders completed to date in the Czech Republic whilst also marking one of the largest vehicle purchases in the operator’s history.

The first buses are scheduled to hit the roads as early as 2027, and will be specifically designed for different transport tasks. They will differ in both battery capacity and range, with the first variant expected to be able to travel up to 350km on a single charge, whilst the second will offer a range of up to 250km – allowing the operator to match the appropriate vehicle to the requirements of individual routes and planned operational tasks.

Each vehicle will be charged via a plug-in connection, with this primarily taking place during overnight stops at the depot. All will be equipped with air conditioning, advanced safety systems and standard solutions to enhance passenger comfort.

To date, more than 450 Solaris buses and trolleybuses have been delivered to Ostrava, and, in 2021, DPO ordered 24 Urbino 12 electric buses together with charging infrastructure, marking Solaris’s first contract for electric buses in the Czech Republic.
