A brand-new test operation launching in Madrid will see an Irizar bus equipped with a Bosch fuel-cell power module (FCPM) transporting passengers through the Spanish capital.
The trial, which has now been in operation for several weeks, will focus on routes where the fuel cell’s long range allows it to fully demonstrate its potential advantages.
Operated by Spanish bus company Alsa, the vehicle has thus far undergone extensive testing, and has now received the necessary approval for day-to-day operation in real conditions. These results will be utilised to confirm the strength of the fuel-cell powertrain, with the bus equipped with a FCPM C190 fuel-cell system from Bosch, which is based on a horizontal double stack and delivers a continuous output of 190 kilowatts.
The vehicle offers a range of over 1,000 kilometres with refuelling times of between 10 and 15 minutes, allowing it to be used for intercity services.
