Volvo Buses has announced the launch of the Volvo 9700, bringing one of its most recognised coach models back to the European market.

Designed for both long-distance line-haul operations and charter services, the Volvo 9700 aims to combine passenger comfort, fuel-efficient performance and enhanced driver support with integrated packages of services, support and financing.

Volvo has launched a revised version of its popular Volvo 97000 coach

In parallel to this, Volvo has announced intentions to introduce the Volvo BZR Electric chassis, which will be combined with a Carrus Delta coach body.

Additionally, the company has announced it has entered a new partnership with body builder Marcopolo to introduce a new premium coach in Europe – the Volvo B13R – Marcopolo Paradiso G8.

Anna Westerberg, President Volvo Buses, said:

We are determined to grow in the European coach segment with an attractive and competitive range.

Customers demand solutions that combine passenger comfort with safety, efficiency and reliable support throughout the vehicle’s lifetime. Our expanded offer is designed around those priorities.

Production of the Volvo 9700 is now underway at the Volvo Buses manufacturing facility in Tultitlán, Mexico, with customer deliveries scheduled to begin late 2026, whilst the first Volvo BZR Electric CD coaches have already begun reaching customers. Elsewhere, the order book for the Volvo B13R – Marcopolo Paradiso G8 is growing steadily, with Volvo stating significant customer demand in Southern Europe.

The new Volvo 9700 introduces Independent Front Suspension (IFS), which, replacing a traditional rigid front axle, allows each front wheel to move independently. Combined with Volvo Dynamic Steering (VDS), the new system aims to enhance directional stability at highway speeds, reduce sensitivity to crosswinds and minimise steering corrections in a bid to help to reduce driver fatigue – as well as enable the use of a smaller steering wheel.

Powered by a 13-litre engine, the coach is available in 420, 460 and 500 hp versions. All powertrain options are compatible with renewable fuels such as HVO and biodiesel, and are paired with the latest version of Volvo’s 12-speed I-Shift automated transmission. The coach is available in three lengths – 12.4, 13.1 and 13.9 meters, in 4×2 and 6×2 configurations, and offers multiple seating layouts.

Finally, the coach is equipped with advanced driver assistance systems designed to help prevent accidents and improve road safety. Passenger seats can be fitted with three-point seatbelts throughout the coach, while ISOFIX anchor points, booster cushions and integrated rearward-facing child seats are available to support safer travel for younger passengers.
