Pelican has provided the first details for the release of its Yutong double-decker electric bus, developed for the UK market.
The U11DD has been designed to provide an optimised low total cost of ownership, building on Yutong’s experience of deploying electric double-decker vehicles in China and other countries.
Its new right-hand-drive version has been designed specifically for the UK market, and will thus be distributed by Yutong’s local subsidiary, Pelican.
The model will be fitted with 385 or 422kWh batteries, as well as the Yutong Electric Safety System.
These batteries will be produced by Contemporary Amperex Technology Limited (CATL) and will consist of Lithium Iron Phosphate with no cobalt, which is considered to be the safest chemistry on the market.
Ian Downie, Head of Yutong UK at Pelican said:Since I joined Pelican, we have been working on the development of this exciting product. The brief was to develop not only a zero-emission electric double-deck, but also a vehicle that would be attractive to operators, passengers and drivers. It is a very proud moment to see the results, with an interior that welcomes passengers into bright, airy, air-conditioned comfort, with a superb structure without noise and rattles, a wide roomy drivers cab with ergonomically designed controls, smooth driving characteristics, and excellent access to all components.
Due to customer interest, Pelican states that it will launch two demonstrator vehicles in the UK from September and November this year.
