The U.S. Department of Transportation (US DOT) has announced 19 million USD in funding through the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) to support transit projects serving American Indian Tribes and Alaska Native communities.
The announcement is part of ongoing federal transit programmes aimed at improving transportation infrastructure in Tribal and Alaska Native regions.

The funding may be used for a range of purposes, including the purchase of new transit vehicles, upgrades to bus facilities incorporating modern technologies, and the expansion of local transit services to improve access within and between communities.
According to the FTA, the Tribal Transit Programme is designed to support transit services for federally recognised American Indian Tribes and Alaska Native Villages, groups, and communities. The funding will help meet transport needs for residents, including older people, young families and disabled passengers in rural and remote areas.
Federal Transit Administration Chief Counsel Matthew Cahill said:Under President Trump and Secretary Duffy, America is building again, including in our Tribal Nations. USDOT is investing tens of millions into developing better infrastructure, promoting economic development, and improving the safety of our transit systems for our Tribal and Alaska Native communities.
The FTA has issued a Notice of Funding Opportunity setting out application requirements for eligible projects. Tribal authorities and other eligible applicants are encouraged to submit proposals, with a deadline of 25 August 2026.
