The Kansas Public Transit Association was founded in 1981 by individual persons and Kansas transit systems interested in promoting public transportation in Kansas. KPTA has grown from 10 original members in 1981 to over 160 today.

KPTA has taken a leading role in working with state and federal government for equity in regulation towards public transportation, and takes an active role nationally and is a member of the American Public Transit Association, the Community Transportation Association of America, the Southwest Transit Association, and Kansas Economic Lifelines.

Our activities include: educational/training forums, the annual association meeting/expo, special membership bulletins, e-news as it happens, contacts directory, and membership services.

KPTA Membership

Advocacy – KPTA is your voice in Kansas and Washington, representing its members’ interests on all key state and federal transit-related issues. KPTA acts as your advocate on issues that matter most to you, such as transit funding, rulemaking, and state and federal transportation plans. KPTA’s education and outreach efforts have played a vital role in advocating an increase in the number of state and federal dollars invested in the Kansas transit industry. Consider as an extension of your own staff. Our Legislative Updates and Washinton Alerts keep you up-to-date with all that is happening.

Professional Development – KPTA is dedicated to supporting you with opportunities for building knowledge and skills. Each year KPTA hosts an Annual Conference and provides information on numerous other workshops and webinars focusing on a wide range of public transportation topics. Aside from our top-notch educational program at the annual meeting, the meeting provides you the opportunity to network with industry professionals and exchange ideas and information.

Your Industry Information Resource – KPTA keeps you on top of the latest news and information through reports, the website and ongoing e-mail updates which keep you abreast of what is happening around the industry, at FTA, and at CTAA and APTA. KPTA is a member of both the Community Transportation Association of America and the American Public Transportation Association. KPTA is represented at these industry meetings, including the annual legislative conference in Washington, and we provide you timely reports on these activities.
